A large earth mover performs site work.South Suburban Parks & Recreation and the Highlands Ranch Metro District have partnered to plan and design a new outdoor pickleball complex near the southwest corner of S. Broadway and County Line Road. Ground has officially broken on the future Southpark Pickleball Complex.

Features of the complex include: 

  • 19 north-south facing courts with acrylic surfacing; each court will be fenced
  • 147 parking spaces
  • plumbed and heated restrooms
  • court lighting
  • shade pavilions with picnic tables
  • low-water landscaping

Once open, the west courts will be managed and operated by South Suburban and the east courts will be managed and operated by the Metro District. The complex will offer drop-in play, court rentals, camps, clinics, leagues, private instruction and tournaments. 

Pickleball Complex proposed site plan south of West County Line Road between Elati Street and South Broadway that includes 19 courts, parking lots, shade structures, picnic tables and restrooms. 

Timeline

  • Planning & Design Development: Summer 2023-Summer 2024
  • Public Outreach: June-July 2024
  • Public Information Session: June, 24, 2024
  • Construction Drawings: June-August 2024
  • Groundbreaking Ceremony: Oct. 23, 2024
  • Construction: Weather dependent, but anticipated through June 2025

Project Background

  • Representatives from South Suburban and the Metro District pose for a groundbreaking photo.Construction fencing along the site perimeter was installed the week of Oct. 7, 2024, and a groundbreaking ceremony was held Oct. 23, 2024. 
  • During late Summer 2024, boards of both districts approved the final site plan and "Southpark Pickleball Complex" name. 
  • The Construction Mananger/General Contractor selection was made during Spring 2024. The decision to use a Construction Manager/General Contractor (CM/GC) under an Integrated Project Delivery was approved by the South Suburban Board of Directors as well as the Highlands Ranch Metro District Board of Directors. After issuing a Request for Qualifications/Proposals and interviewing the three most qualified candidates, JHL Constructors Inc (JHL) emerged as the most qualified CM/GC demonstrating the best value for delivering the project. SSPRD and Metro District staff jointly recommended and both Boards approved a contract with JHL.
