Fire & Emergency Services
The Metro District partners with several first responders to help ensure the safety, health and security of people living and working in Highlands Ranch. This includes Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and South Metro Fire Rescue.
South Metro Fire Rescue
SMFR provides fire and emergency services to Highlands Ranch. The community is currently served by three fire stations, two of which are in Highlands Ranch. An additional fire station, planned for a south central location, is in the design stage.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is the law enforcement agency serving Highlands Ranch. The Metro District works closely with DCSO on several programs, including the following:
- National Night Out
- Community outreach at a variety of community events
- Metro District Park Rangers are commissioned by the DCSO to enforce specific state statutes in Highlands Ranch parks, trails and open space
- We also collaborate with the DCSO on a number of safety education programs.
