Additional Metro District Projects

New sidewalks at the Highlands Ranch Mansion: Construction of new sidewalks was completed at the Highlands Ranch Mansion during October. The sidewalks will provide pedestrian access to the Mansion property from both driveways off Ranch Road to the north and Gateway Drive to the south of the Mansion. The project included repaving of two existing sidewalks, which connect to new paved pathways. Total cost of the project is $190,000.

Channel drainage project: Maintenance on a channel drainage area will begin in mid-September off Foothills Trail in central Highlands Ranch. Residents will see construction equipment, including dump truck, loader and excavator, in the staging area between Red Oakes Drive and Bexley Drive. The project is expected to take about three weeks to complete.

Russian olive tree removals: During 2024, Metro District staff, partners and contractors will focus on removing approximately 350 invasive Russian olive trees from the Middle Fork open space and drainage areas towards the east side of Highlands Ranch. The Metro District is working to eradicate all Russian olive trees from its properties during the next few years. Russian olive trees tax water reserves, can spread easily and can out-compete native species for nutrients and space. The Metro District also offers a homeowner incentive program to encourage residents to remove these invasive trees from their own properties.

Streetlights on Wildcat Reserve Parkway: Installation of new streetlights is being planned along the south side of Wildcat Reserve Parkway from Gateway Drive to Mountain Vista High School. Metro District staff requested the design last fall, and recently received a design and cost estimate. Staff submitted a request to Xcel Energy to see if an additional light can be installed, and are awaiting a final cost estimate.

West Fork Disc Golf Course trail crossing: A new bridge at the Dad Clark Gulch crossing along the West Fork Trail in the West Fork Disc Golf Course was installed during May. Mile High Flood District, a partner of the Metro District, covered all costs of the project beyond the design and purchase of the bridge. The improvement was needed because over the past several years the previous trail crossing had been subject to flooding resulting in debris and sediment buildup, and disrupting the ability of trail users, disc golfers, and maintenance personnel to cross Dad Clark Gulch. As of June 4, all disc golf baskets were reinstalled, with the exception of Hole 11. Hole 11 will remain temporarily closed to reduce traffic over reseeded portions of the course.

Wild Iris Crossing: Channel sediment removal and dredging are ongoing at this crossing at the intersection of Dad Clark Trail and Foothills Trail, located south of Sand Creek Elementary School.
