Ages 6-15

This skills competition is open to both boys and girls ages six to 15 (age as of December 31, 2016). The top finisher in each of the boys’ and girls’ divisions from the five age brackets of each local competition will advance to the sectional round. Only the top four first place finishers in each age bracket from the boys’ and girls’ divisions from the pool of sectional competition champions will advance to the team championship at Invesco Field in November.

5:30 pm High Line Canal Conservancy Open House

The Highlands Ranch Metro District is proud to support the visioning efforts of the High Line Canal Conservancy and its planning initiative for the 71-mile High Line Canal. Seven miles of this beautiful trail run through Highlands Ranch, and together we can help chart its course for the next century. Join the Conservancy anytime from 5:30 – 8 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Recreation Center at Westridge for a public open house. A community inspired draft Vision Plan for the future of the Canal will be revealed and attendees can engage in fun, interactive ways to give further input and feedback.

Skateboarders, BMX riders and scooter riders of all skill levels are invited to compete in the annual Ruler of the Railzz competition. The contest is open to all ages and abilities. There will be seven divisions in which to participate:

  • Beginner ages 4-7
  • Beginner ages 8+
  • Intermediate Bowl
  • Intermediate Street
  • Advanced Bowl
  • Advanced Street
  • Advanced Mini Bowl

Competition begins at noon, and judges will reward the top winners in each division. The cost is $10 per participant for each event entered. Events are open to the first 15 participants per division.

5:00 pm Map and Compass Treasure Hunt

Ages 8-12

The ability to use a map and compass are a must when hiking outdoors. Even in this high-tech GPS era, nothing replaces the value of these crucial tools and the understanding of how both can help you find your way in the wilderness. Learn how to read a map, orient yourself, and find various sites using a map and compass. Find hidden treasures on an exciting scavenger hunt in the open space. All participants will get to keep their found treasures as well as a Silva compass, a $12 value! An accompanying adult is required to come along, partner with the child and learn.

Highlands Ranch Park & Recreation Foundation Benefit Golf Tournament

12:30 p.m. Check-in | 1 p.m. Shotgun Start 
Cost: $95/golfer

All proceeds of this annual tournament presented by the Highlands Ranch Metro District go to the Highlands Ranch Park and Recreation Foundation and benefit local park and recreation programs and facilities.

Participants will enjoy 18 holes of golf, dinner, drinks, prizes and a tax deduction. Prizes will be awarded for the top three teams, third from the last, longest drive, closest to the pin and longest putt. Registration deadline is Monday, Sept. 19.

There’s an app for that. If you are a long time explorer or this is something you have always wanted to try, then bring your smart phone and join a park ranger to search for hidden caches. This is a great way for families or individuals to discover the Metro District parks and trails. This program requires a smart phone and a geocaching app from Groundspeak Inc., full version is recommended.
